Endymion by Dan Simmons
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
It’s been almost 300 years since the end of The Fall of Hyperion. The Hegemony has collapsed and the Catholic Church has come into power during the collapses’ vacuum. The One Who Teaches is soon to appear and the Church wants her captured at all costs.
The continuation of the Hyperion Cantos in book three of the series, was pretty awesome. We learned the motivation of the Church and the truth about the cruciform. A handful of characters were introduced, Aenea (The One Who Teaches), Raul Endymion (her protector), A. Bettik (their android companion), and Father De Soya (their pursuer). The story was really good, we have a fanatical Catholic Church, artificial intelligence, Earth’s and the universes future state, the deadly Shrike, Time Tombs, and a handful of other things.
I’m looking forward to The Rise of Endymion, the fourth and last book in the series. I hope the architect that’s alluded to in this book is who I think it is. Time will tell.
