MacBook Pro: Follow up

Posted in Apple on March 31st, 2010 by Matthew Carlton

So I think its time to come back around and write a little more about my MacBook Pro purchase.  I’ve not been able to say this about any computer purchases I’ve ever made, but here it goes … I’m completely happy with this system.  I have one thing I don’t care for and it’s about the Magic Mouse and not the laptop.  The battery life of the Magic Mouse could be longer.  The screen is fabulous, Time Machine is great, I’ve organized all my pictures and music.  I can do anything on this system I could do on a Windows system, so I’m not held back trying to do work from it.

I’m completely happy with this Mac, it’s ironic considering my job.

Soundtracks.

Posted in Music on March 29th, 2010 by Matthew Carlton

I was thinking about a random thing this evening after I got home from work.  Soundtracks.  Why?  I don’t know.  I do know that I have a few favorites … Lost in Translation and Garden State.  I’m sure there are others, I know a lot of great movie scores, but I’m talking about soundtracks.  Essentially a compilation of great stuff that’s supposed to go with the movie at hand.

What other soundtracks should I check into?

This is the only time of the year I enjoy basketball

Posted in Random Things on March 26th, 2010 by Matthew Carlton

Where exactly did the term March Madness come from?  March is generally the only month of the year I actually enjoy watching basketball.  I’m one of those guys who watches the tournament and cheers for the closest team still left in the dance.  I don’t fill out any brackets in any office pools … I just watch games for three weekends in a row.  That gives me my basketball fill, I’ll be satisfied till next year.

Tonight Is A Night To Relax

Posted in Random Things on March 25th, 2010 by Matthew Carlton

As the title says, tonight I am going to relax.  It shouldn’t be too hard since I’ve been up since 4am because of work.  Being as tired I think I’ll be later I won’t have a problem not doing anything tonight.

I do have a todo list for this evening:

  1. 1.5 hour massage
  2. Sushi at Ocean World
  3. Watch the Butler Sweet 16 game

I think that’s a full night.

Parallels 5 for Mac

Parallels 5 for Mac

A co-worker tipped me off to a great deal on http://www.mupromo.com/.  For another week you can get the following software for your Mac for only 49.99:

  • Parallels 5
  • Spell Catcher X
  • Timeline 3D
  • Hydra
  • Back-In-Time
  • WebSnapper
  • ForeverSave
  • Hyperspaces
  • MacDVDRipper Pro
  • MacScan

Considering that Parallels (Virtual Machine Software that’s rad) and Hydra both retail for $80 a piece, getting the whole bundle for 50 dollars is steel even if you’re looking for one of the included applications.  They accept credit card and Paypal; the transaction and download was fast.  I received an email detailing my activation keys in seconds after purchasing.

Mac users, come alive and check this out!

Under Great White Northern Lights

Under Great White Northern Lights

Under Great White Northern Lights

I was wondering through my local Best Buy looking for an album by Matisyahu, I came across Under Great White Northern Lights by the White Stripes.  I’m a fan of the White Stripes, I listen to most of Jake Whites other explorations into music.  All that being said, I’m not sure why they put this live recording out for purchase by the general public.  I’m not even sure how to describe the felling I had initially listening to this recording, but i’ll try.

Disgust.

This single handedly makes sure I’ll never see the White Stripes in concert.  Maybe it was an off night … however if they recorded and released it to the public I guess they think it’s rad.  They changed arrangements on songs and the songs they didn’t change sounded awful and pitchy.

I’m totally unimpressed and wishing I could return this album.
